Joy
Sunday, October 28
4:00 p.m.

Joy Levine is shabby and worn-out on the outside while well-kept and filled with joy on the inside. Her life changes when she participates in a reality television show, to be aired right after Yom Kippur, with forgiveness being its theme. Joy is required to get all her parent’s former friends to a party to reconcile them. She has to let the viewers into her private inner world and reveal an event that has been overshadowing her family’s life for the past 22 years which caused a tight-knit bunch of friends to shun her parents. This film won five Israeli Academy Awards.

Woody Allen’s Radio Days
Sunday, January 13
4:00 P.M.

Radio Days is a movie without a plot, but suffers not a jot for its meandering structure. Narrated in winsome terms by Woody Allen, the movie is simply an affectionate collection of loosely connected stories revolving around the life of a typical Jewish family and the way radio was
woven into their daily lives.

Capturing the Friedmans
Sunday, April 27
4:00 P.M.

Did teacher and father Arnold Friedman molest young boys during basement computer classes in Great Neck? Was his youngest son Jesse complicit in these acts? Was the case handled properly by law enforcement and the judicial system? By the Friedmans? The film is an examination of the complexity of characters and behaviors that we would prefer to explain simply, the slippery nature of memory, and the elusiveness of objective truth.

The Science of Happiness
Sunday, February 10 — 3:00 p.m.

Depression rates in the US are currently eight times higher than they were during the Great Depression. Positive Psychology is an emerging branch in social psychology that attempts to answer this paradox. Researchers in this field are also investigating whether there is a way of living and thinking that can lead not only to increased happiness, but also to a longer, healthier life.

Distinguished Harvard teacher Shawn Achor will explore some of the techniques that incorporate positive psychology and can lead to increased happiness and health. He is the Head Teaching Fellow for the most popular course at Harvard, Positive Psychology. Please join us for this very unique session, as we bring the university to B’nai Israel. There will be a tuition fee for this special event.
